Scotia Investments Team Gives Back at Feed Nova Scotia

On July 9, members of our SIL team spent the afternoon volunteering at Feed Nova Scotia’s warehouse, sorting an impressive 1,975 kg of food in less than three hours.

While we are no strangers to helping sort food donations for distribution to food banks across Nova Scotia, this experience offered a different perspective. Much of the food had been deemed unsuitable for retail sale due to damaged packaging. Although some items could not be salvaged for human consumption, a significant portion was diverted from landfill.

A local farmer was able to take much of the food that could not be distributed through the food bank and repurpose it as feed for pigs, cows, and chickens. When community partners work together, the benefits extend far beyond a single outcome.
