Scotia Investments Donates R.A. Jodrey Memorial Field to West Hants Community

On August 22nd, government representatives and community members gathered with the Scotia Investments Family of Companies (SIL), family shareholders, employees, and supporters to officially celebrate the donation of Hantsport’s Foundry Field to the people and Municipality of West Hants. The field has been renamed “The R.A. Jodrey Memorial Field” to honour the legacy of the company’s founder.

In 1966, SIL member company Minas Basin Pulp and Power purchased the field site from the Hantsport Fruit and Basket Company. The property was later transferred to sister company Minas Basin Lumber Company, where it served as the location of the company’s sawmill from 1970 until the early 1990s. In 2005, the site was transformed into a community and recreational field under an agreed-upon lease. On August 9th, 2023, the field was officially assigned to the Municipality of West Hants by Scotia Investments.

This donation ensures that the many groups and individuals who have enjoyed the field for recreational and cultural events can continue to do so, with the added benefit of a new pavilion being built this fall.
