We are pleased to welcome Lydia Bugden as the new Chair of our Board of Directors. Lydia joined the Board of Minas Basin Holdings Limited in 2005 and later joined the Board of Scotia Investments Limited in 2020, where she also serves as the Chair of the Corporate Governance/Human Resources Committee. 

Lydia is the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Stewart McKelvey. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1992 and the Ontario Bar in 1994.  After seven years as in-house counsel, Lydia joined Stewart McKelvey in September 1999, became a partner in 2001, and CEO in 2015.  She is highly recognized in her profession, having been named Top 40 Under 40 by L’Expert Magazine, and is noted as a leading corporate-commercial practitioner in numerous legal publications.  She was appointed King’s Counsel in 2020.  

Lydia is a recipient of The Progress Club’s “Women of Excellence” Award, was named one of Canada’s leading women lawyers with a L’Expert “Zenith Award” and was inducted into the Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEO Hall of Fame in the spring of 2022.
