Despite the challenges of the Great Depression’s peak year, Canadian Keyes Fibre Company Limited is incorporated.
1935
Establishing an affordable power source
R.A Jodrey, recognizing the need for an affordable power source for Minas Basin Pulp and Power Company, secures financing during a period of tight credit and completes construction of a hydroelectric plant on the St. Croix River. By 1938, a second hydro-electric facility is added to their assets.
1947
Improvements in infrastructure
At Hantsport, a spacious new factory equipped with modern machinery becomes operational, marking a significant upgrade in operations.
1958
Acquiring Maritime Paper
R.A Jodrey acquires majority ownership of Maritime Paper. moved from its original location on Almon Street in Halifax to the ten-acre site we call home today in Burnside.
1965
Early footprints in innovation
After a decade of innovation in the 1950s and early 1960s, the “plasticized” Chinet plates were unveiled. This year also marked the introduction of egg cartons with lids, now a grocery store staple, to the product lineup.
1976
Scotia Recycling is founded
Scotia Recycling sets itself apart by offering clients progress reports detailing the effectiveness of their recycling solution.
1982
Crown Fibre Tube is incorporated
Focusing on quality at every stage of production, the company delivers superior products in an intensely competitive market.
1999
BioMedica Diagnostics is founded
BioMedica forges international collaborations with technology development companies and healthcare stakeholders.
2005
Maritime Paper's significant leap
After 37 years with its 1960s vintage corrugator, Maritime Paper made a significant leap by investing over $10M in a modern 98” BHS corrugator. This upgrade, complemented by automated board grade setups and robotic tooling, resulted in enhanced productivity and quality, fortifying Maritime Paper’s stance in both domestic and export markets.
2022
The Green Machine
Taking a significant leap in Atlantic Canada’s recycling industry, Scotia Recycling invested $8 million to upgrade its Material Recovery Facility in Kentville NS. This strategic investment amplifies its capacity and establishes a benchmark for high-quality recycling. As the province sharpens its commitment to environmental stewardship, Scotia Recycling is poised to play a pivotal role alongside its government partners.
